Our office is currently reviewing reports involving the sudden, unintended acceleration of certain recalled vehicles manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation, the world’s largest automaker. Consumer reports state that some Toyota vehicles may accelerate unexpectedly and uncontrollably during normal operation, and the U.S. House and Energy Committee has linked more than fifteen deaths to the sudden acceleration of Toyota vehicles.

On October 5, 2009, Toyota issued a recall on specific Toyota and Lexis models asserting that the floor mats in these models may cause entrapment of the accelerator pedals. This recall has affected more than 5 million vehicles:

× 2009-2010 Pontiac Vibe
On January 21, 2010, Toyota announced that it was recalling more than two million vehicles involving pedal-related problems linked to sudden, unintended acceleration. Approximately 2.3 million U.S. light cars and light trucks have been subject to this second recall:
